Let Go, Let God: Finding Peace in Today
Aug 11, 2025Let’s be honest—most of us spend a lot of mental energy either replaying the past or stressing about the future. And neither one brings peace.
When we look back, we often get stuck. We replay mistakes, sit in disappointment, or try to make sense of past trauma. That kind of reflection doesn’t bring healing—it can actually keep us in a place of depression. I've seen it over and over again with clients, and I’ve felt it personally too. The past can weigh heavy.
On the flip side, when we look ahead with fear—wondering what might go wrong, what curveballs life will throw, what we won’t be able to control—anxiety starts to creep in. And let’s face it, the future is filled with a lot of unknowns.
That’s why I love the phrase: Let Go, Let God.
When we let go of the weight of yesterday, we give God space to heal those wounds and free us from shame and regret. And when we surrender the need to control tomorrow, we make room for God to guide us into His good and perfect plan—without being paralyzed by fear.
Let Go of the Past
Paul said it like this in Philippians 3:13-14 (NLT):
“I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead…”
We can’t press forward if we’re always glancing over our shoulder. God doesn’t erase your past—but He sure doesn’t want it to define you anymore. His grace is big enough to cover every mistake and heal every wound.
Isaiah 43:18-19 (NKJV) gives this promise:
“Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing…”
God is doing a new thing in you. You just have to stop carrying the old.
Let God Handle the Future
Jesus makes it simple in Matthew 6:34 (NLT):
“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”
That’s not just good advice—it’s permission to breathe. To stop spiraling in what-ifs. You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just need to trust the One who does.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV) says it best:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding… and He shall direct your paths.”
That’s our job: trust. His job: lead.
Live in the Abundance of Today
Jesus said in John 10:10 (NKJV):
“I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
Not “someday.” Not “when everything is perfect.” Not “when you finally get it together.”
Today.
So take a deep breath. Let go of what’s behind. Stop stressing about what’s ahead.
And lean into what God is offering you right now: peace, purpose, and freedom.
Final Thought
If this hits home for you, I just want you to know—you’re not alone. This is something we all wrestle with. But today is a new day, and it’s filled with new mercy and new possibilities.
Let go.
Let God.
And live fully in the present.
